He meets the "Tank Gang", including yellow tang Bubbles, starfish Peach, cleaner shrimp Jacques, blowfish Bloat, royal gramma Gurgle, and twin damselfish Deb and Flo, led by Gill, a Moorish idol. Nemo is placed in an aquarium in the office of dentist Philip Sherman in Sydney, Australia. The scent sends Bruce into a feeding frenzy, but they flee after accidentally setting off a ring of old naval mines, which knock Marlin and Dory unconscious. Marlin discovers a diver's mask that fell from the boat he accidentally hits Dory with it, giving her a nosebleed. The two encounter Bruce, Anchor, and Chum, three sharks who have sworn to abstain from eating fish. Marlin pursues the boat in vain and meets Dory, a blue tang with acute short-term memory loss, who offers her help. While Marlin is talking to Nemo's teacher, Nemo defiantly approaches a nearby speedboat, where a pair of scuba divers capture him. On Nemo's first day of school, Marlin embarrasses Nemo, and the two argue. Some time later, Marlin is overprotective of Nemo, born with a stunted right fin. Only one damaged egg remains, which Marlin names Nemo.

In a similar vein to Glut the Shark from The Little Mermaid, this may have been done merely for dramatic purposes. Despite barracudas and other fish not having vocal cords and as such not being able to produce any sounds, the Barracuda can be heard roaring as it attacks Marlin and Coral.In the original storyboard of the movie, there was going to be a scene where Coral and the eggs were seen inside the barracuda's mouth, but it later changed to a deleted scene because it would have scared little kids watching the movie.he is set to return for revenge in the sequel, finding marlin. when he finds out he did not eat all of the eggs, fang becomes furious. Marlin tries to help Coral, but the barracuda knocks Marlin unconscious and eats Coral and her eggs, except one that later becomes Nemo. The moment she moves, the barracuda attacks. Coral sees her eggs and rushes to protect them. The barracuda is seen in the beginning of the film as it looks at Marlin and Coral. He is the overarching antagonist seen at the beginning of the film Finding Nemo and will be the main antagonist of finding marlin.
